Amapiano is a relatively new genre based in South Africa. It is a mix of deep afro house, kwaito and gqom filled with percussions, 808 bass lines and piano. The usual tempo is around 112 to 114 bpm.
The genre emerged in 2016. DJ Maphorisa (“One Dance”) and Kabza De Small have been in the forefront of popularizing the genre.
Last year amapiano took over air waves and WhatsApp groups in southern Africa. It dominated Spotify lists, social media, clubs and the streets.
SOEK SOEK is over an hour long amapiano mix. Songs are curated in collaboration with Namibian amapiano enthusiast DJ Enigma. The mix includes some of the biggest hits of the moment.
